It’s Okay to Cheat on Your Diet – Right?

We’ve all heard it said that cheating on your diet every now and then isn’t the worse thing in the world. We’re told that it’s okay to treat ourselves to the high fat, sugar, and carb rich meals every now and then. While it’s true that one carb loaded meal won’t instantly undo all of your hard work, the biggest risk that comes with cheating on your diet is your shift in mindset. When it comes to eating health, mindset is everything! Positive behaviors such as celebrating small successes, milestones, focusing on positive self-talk and practicing mindfulness all support us in achieving our wellness goals — and sustain them overtime rather than allowing negative thinking to consume us. Often times when we step outside the parameters of our diets our mindsets shift to blame, guilt, and shame. We blame ourselves or others for getting off track, we feel guilty and sometimes comfort eat to ease our shame. Or we resort to thinking, since I’ve messed up, there’s no chance of getting back on track. All of these negative thoughts hinder our success and make long-term sustainable weight loss more difficult to achieve.

At Fit2Lead we certainly believe you should celebrate your wins and milestones, and an occasional healthy sweet treat may be on the menu. We work with our clients to identify their body types, weight loss goals, and specific nutritional needs to suggest fun, healthy, and downright delicious treats that feel good, help you stay on track with your fitness goals and cause you to break into your “good food” happy dance with a smile.
